SPT2007 - Fourth Circular (April 2007) The conference SPT2007 (Symmetry and Perturbation Theory) will take place in Otranto (South-East Italy, near Lecce) on 2-9 June 2007. See the web site www.sptspt.it for this series of conferences. See http://www.sptspt.it/spt2007.html for this venue. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Registered Participants to SPT2007, this circular is addressed only to registered participants, as will be all our communications from nowadays to the Conference; however they will still be posted on our web page, so that you can recover them in case of malfunctioning of the mail systems. This communication concerns several subjects: (1) Transfer (2) Talks, posters & equipment (3) List of participants, communications, etc (4) Late registrations (5) Conference fees (6) Visa and invitation letters ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (1) Transfer from Brindisi airport or Lecce train station to Hotel Daniela on arrival day. You have been receiving several communication to this effect, but just to be sure, let me repeat that you can reserve seats on the buses we organize by filling the required information (see link at our web page) and sending it as a mail with subject exactly "BUS" (different ones will be killed by spam filter); we will schedule buses according to communications received up to 30 April. If seats are still available on buses these will be of course available for late-requiring participants and accompanying persons, but we will not be able to arrange extra buses. This service will be offered at a reduced cost, equal for participants and accompanying persons. A tentative bus schedule is posted on our "local" pages (accessible also through the standard SPT2007 web page); a final schedule will be announced around mid-may, taking into account arrival times of those who required the service. There will be a list of passengers on each bus, so you can check everything is in order (and we can correct any mistake). NOTE 1: This is coordinated by prof. Vitolo, who will be away in the first part of May; thus please do not ask us information about this in the next couple of weeks. NOTE 2: Those not intending to use this service will find taxis both in Brindisi airport and in Lecce airport shuttle terminal and train station; in this case you are advised to print the relevant pages of Hotel Daniela website to direct the taxi drivers. A different option (much slower and not substantially cheaper as you will however need a taxi for the last stretch) is to take local trains from Lecce to Maglie and from here to Otranto, and then a taxi in Otranto. You can also ask Hotel Daniela to arrange a transfer for you. NOTE 3: As mentioned above, there is a shuttle bus linking Brindisi airport to Lecce; the airport terminal is locatel near hotel Tiziano next to the city wall; walking south along these you will reach the train station in about 1 - 1.5 km. A baggage deposit exists in the train station, which you might be willing to use in case you want to visit Lecce (definitely worth it!) on your way. NOTE 4: The transfer service is offered only on the arrival (and on the departure) day; if you arrive later please make your own arrangements. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (2) Talks, posters & equipment. The conference room will be equipped with an overhead projector and with a beamer. Please note it will be difficult to find shops with transparencies or pens for them in the vicinity of the hotel, so come with all you need in this respect. (Similarly, no photocopying facilities around the hotel, so you might be willing to take some copies of your papers with you.) As for the beamer, these tools are well known to be able to create unpredictable problems in connection with new computers; we will thus invite everybody to use a single computer attached to the beamer and not your own one (let us know if this seems impossible). A few days before the conference we will invite all of you -- and most particularly those speaking early in the conference -- to transmit the files of your talks so that they are already mounted on the computer at the time of your talk. This can also be done at the conference itself; in this case please take your files on a suitably "universal" support (in particular, if you use USB flash memories, be sure these are not formatted in a too special way). Again to avoid any incompatibility, it would be advisable that your slides are in PDF (as second choice, PS or DVI) rather than on a proprietary format. In any case, it will be your responsability to make sure things work with your slides on the computer/beamer BEFORE the session; any time employed in making things work at the time of the talk will be counted as being part of the talk (no matter if it takes all of your alloted time). Posters will be on one or two 100x70 cardboards. Note that some communication proposed as poster could be given as short talk, and viceversa (this will be communicated shortly); that is, don't be too hurried in preparing your posters. NOTE: As you have seen from the list of participants on the web, we had far more registrations than expected; it is thus possible that we resort to parallel sessions in order to allow a larger number of participants to deliver a talk. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (3) List of participants. A list of pre-registered participants is since a long time available on the web; a list with titles of proposed communications (with no distinction between talks and posters) is being posted in PDF format on the SPT2007 web page, and a list of abstracts will soon be posted (the link is already present but leads nowhere at the moment). A tentative program will appear in due time. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (4) Late registrations. It is still possible to register, but only to assist to the conference (it is NOT possible to propose other communications). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (5) Conference fees. These are payable IN CASH ONLY at the conference; as these are rather limited (100 E for faculty and postdocs, 50 E reduced rate for students and unemployed) we trust the fact we are not able to accept credit cards or cheques will not be a problem. NOTE: We will issue a receipt but cannot issue an invoice (TVA number etc). If this poses some problem to you towards your Administration, it might be convenient to pay the conference fee by bank transfers to our bank account prior to the conference; details are available on request. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (6) Visa and invitation letters. All those who need invitation letters for the visa should by now have received these; as for lodging statements, these should be issued by the Hotel. For these matters, refer to prof. Vitolo if you are in Russia, to prof. Gaeta if you are elsewhere. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ END OF FOURTH CIRCULAR G.
